About Banaras

Varanasi — also known as Kashi or Banaras — is one of the oldest and most sacred cities in the world, resting on the left bank of the holy river Ganga in Uttar Pradesh, northern India. A city of temples, light, and knowledge, it has been a centre of art, religion, and craftsmanship for over 5,000 years. The history of Banaras is inseparable from the Banarasi saree. Introduced during the Mughal era, Banarasi silk weaving blends intricate Mughal design sensibility with ancient Indian craftsmanship. Today, Banarasi silk sarees are among the finest in the world — celebrated for their rich brocade, antique zari work, and exquisite motifs of flowers, birds, and geometric patterns. From organza to katan silk, from tanchoi to meenakari — each variety tells its own story. These are not just garments. They are heirlooms.

At ZARIPALLU, we work directly with the master weavers of Varanasi to bring you authentic, handloom-certified pieces at honest prices. When you wear a ZARIPALLU saree, you carry the soul of Banaras with you.
